چکیده
Historically the finite volumemethods have been developed for the numerical integration of conservation laws. In this study we present some recent results on the application of such schemes to dispersive PDEs. Namely, we solve numerically a representative of Boussinesq type equations in view of important applications to the coastal hydrodynamics. Numerical results of the runup of a moderate wave onto a non-uniform beach are presented along with great lines of the employed numerical method (see D. Dutykh et al. (2011) [7] for more details).

متن کاملFinite volume schemes for dispersive wave propagation and runup
Finite volume schemes are commonly used to construct approximate solutions to conservation laws. In this study we extend the framework of the finite volume methods to dispersive water wave models, in particular to Boussinesq type systems. We focus mainly on the application of the method to bidirectional nonlinear, dispersive wave propagation in one space dimension. Special emphasis is given to ...

In this paper, a moving boundary technique is developed to investigate wave runup and rundown with depth-integratedequations. Highly nonlinear and weakly dispersive equations are solved using a high-order finite difference scheme. An eddyviscosity model is adopted for wave breaking so as to investigate breaking wave runup. The moving boundary technique utilizeslinear extrapolation t...
متن کاملEffect of wave frequency and directional spread on shoreline runup
[1] Wave breaking across the surf zone elevates the mean water level at the shoreline (setup), and drives fluctuations about the mean (runup). Runup often is divided into seaswell (0.04–0.3 Hz) and lower frequency infragravity (0.00– 0.04 Hz) components. With energetic incident waves, runup is dominated by infragravity frequencies, and total water levels (combined setup and runup) can exceed 3 ...
متن کاملModeling the 26 December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami: Case study of impact in Thailand
[1] The devastating 26 December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami stressed the need for assessing tsunami hazard in vulnerable coastal areas. Numerical modeling is but one important tool for understanding past tsunami events and simulating future ones. Here we present a robust simulation of the event, which explains the large runups and destruction observed in coastal Thailand and identifies areas vuln...
